“One morning Dan’s father, George, decided to go out and check the pumps at the various ranch wells. He parked his pick up at the first pump. Suddenly a helicopter zoomed over the surrounding boulders. Presuming it was Border Patrol, Dan’s father waved, checked the pump and then drove up a small canyon to check two more pups. The helicopter followed his route, hovering over him as he stepped from his truck. Again he waved, checked pumps, and drove back to the hacienda. The helicopter pursued and then descended until it was just a few feet above the courtyard. Immediately a line of patrol cars appeared, skidding into the yard as Dan’s father fished out his ID and weakly raised his hands. The Border Patrol officers told him that when he was checking the first pump, two dozen drug runners were hidden in the brush just beyond the well with their backpacks and guns. They likely would have killed him to steak his truck. But why did the helicopter then track him to the other pumps? Actually, they thought he was the drug dealers’ pickup man!”
